چکیده
Abstract Haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients are at increased risk of malignancies, including cancers the oral cavity, with a reported observed-to-expected ratio 10.7, accounting for 14% all solid tumours following HSCT. We report 10 cases squamous carcinoma (SCC; 2016–2022) in HSCT from single tertiary centre [nine men and one woman; median age diagnosis 52 years (range 27–66)]. Thirty per cent were ex-smokers 10% current smokers. Prior to HSCT, 50% had reduced intensity conditioning, 40% myeloablative conditioning both. Eighty sibling allografts 20% matched unrelated donors. Ninety history chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), affected sites mouth (n = 6), skin eyes 5), lungs 4), kidneys 3) liver 1). Forty active severe manifestations GVHD. Treatments used GVHD included topical immunosuppression 6) extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP; n 2). Median latency SCC was 4–22). At time diagnosis, not taking immunosuppressants, being treated corticosteroids immunosuppression, patient recently ECP. Examination findings induration, ulceration, tenderness, bleeding, hyperkeratosis, speckling lymphadenopathy Fifty asymptomatic. In cases, previous biopsy showed hyperplastic or dysplastic changes. متن کاملThe Cancer Stem Cell Hypothesis in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A New Target for the Treatment
Within a single tumor clone, cells have significantly different abilities to proliferate and form new tumors. This has led to the hypothesis that most cells in a cancer have a limited ability to divide and only a small subset of distinct cells, the cancer stem cells (CSCs), has the capacity to self-renew and form new tumors . It has been proposed that the development of tumors is based exclusiv...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical Evaluation of Fascin in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background and purpose: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the eighth most common cancer in men and the fifteenth in women. Localized recurrence and metastasis to regional lymph nodes are major problems in these patients. Fascin is a 55- kDa protein from the family of actin-binding proteins that is expressed in cells with membranous bronchial tubes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expre...
متن کاملSecondary Malignant Neoplasms Following Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Childhood
Improving survival rates in children with malignancy have been achieved at the cost of a high frequency of late adverse effects of treatment, especially in intensively treated patients such as those undergoing haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), many of whom suffer the high burden of chronic toxicity. Secondary malignant neoplasms (SMNs) are one of the most devastating late effects...
متن کاملExpression of CK8 and CK17, Specific Epithelial Markers, by Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cell Lines
Objectives Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is among the most common cancers worldwide. This study aimed to assess the expression of CK8 and CK17 by OSCC cell lines in Iranian patients. Methods This observational study was conducted on three OSCC cell lines with a minimum of 45 passages. Cells isolated from three patients with OSCC were cultured and passaged. Expression of CK8 and CK17 epi...
